Yona Lee makes sculptures that combine structures of stainless steel tubing with everyday materials of urban and domestic spaces.
This exhibition presents a room-sized sculpture composed of welded stainless steel with household utility objects including lamps, beds, umbrella, tables and chairs.
Yona Lee was born in 1986 in Busan, South Korea. She lives and works in Auckland, New Zealand, and completed MFA at Auckland University Elam School of Fine Arts in 2010. Lee’s work has recently been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia (2018-2019); City Gallery, Wellington, New Zealand (2018-2019); and Dunedin Public Art Gallery, New Zealand (2020). Her work has featured in large-scale thematic exhibitions including the Busan Biennale, South Korea (2020); 15th Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art, France (2019); and Changwon Sculpture Biennale, South Korea (2016).
This is Yona Lee’s second solo exhibition with Fine Arts, Sydney.
