Fine Arts, Sydney is presenting an exhibition of sculpture with the work of four individual artists: Francis Upritchard, Hany Armanious, Fiona Connor, and Ricky Swallow.
Francis Upritchard is an artist whose work draws from figurative sculpture, craft traditions and design, with references from literature and history. Francis Upritchard was born in New Plymouth, New Zealand in 1976. She has made exhibitions at museums and institutions worldwide, and represented New Zealand at the 53rd Venice Biennale. She lives and works in the United Kingdom, Italy, and New Zealand.
Hany Armanious makes sculptures from near-identical casts of his starting object or group of forms that toy with notions of originality and the dependability of truth in the physical world. Hany Armanious was born in Ismailia, Egypt, in 1962. He has made exhibitions at museums and institutions worldwide, and represented Australia at the 54th Venice Biennale. This July a 20-year survey exhibition will be presented by the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, United Kingdom. He lives and works in Sydney, Australia.
Fiona Connor’s work is often to do with communities of people and use of the built environment, and uses sculptural form to refer us to items or places elsewhere. Fiona Connor was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1981. She has made exhibitions at museums and institutions worldwide, including SculptureCenter, New York, United States, and Secession, Vienna, Austria in 2019. She lives and works in Los Angeles, United States.
Ricky Swallow uses ordinary materials to construct object forms that he then casts in bronze, evoking the hands-on immediacy of craft and the austere elegance of geometric abstraction. Ricky Swallow was born in San Remo, Australia in 1972. He has made exhibitions at museums and institutions worldwide, and represented Australia at the 51st Venice Biennale. He lives and works in Los Angeles, United States.
