Prudence Flint

Red Flag

September — October, 2025

Fine Arts, Sydney is presenting an exhibition of new work by Prudence Flint.

Prudence Flint’s process is painterly and rich in the techniques and traditions of figurative easel painting. She has a regular practice of drawing and painting from life, with a close circle that model for her at her studio. Her paintings take long periods to make, sometimes gestating for years. Ideas that are evolved on larger scale canvases are initiated and developed as drawings and painted in studies.

Over three decades Prudence Flint has made work that is populated by mostly female figures in interior spaces. The figures in her paintings, drawings and studies are wilfully distorted and statuesque, while the pictorial spaces of their other-worldly settings are soft-toned and austere. Although reluctant to put specific narratives into words, she conveys an expression of character and space that is full of feeling and intent.

Prudence Flint lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. This will be her fourth solo exhibition with Fine Arts, Sydney. Her work will feature in the 2026 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art and was recently exhibited in the National Gallery of Victoria’s 2023 NGV Triennial, and ‘The Intelligence of Painting’ at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia.
