Prudence Flint
Conditions for Sprouting Seeds
February — March, 2022
Fine Arts, Sydney is presenting an exhibition of new work by Prudence Flint.
For the past twenty or so years, Prudence Flint’s paintings have been populated by mostly female figures in interior spaces and occasionally outdoors. The figures in her paintings are wilfully distorted and statuesque, while the pictorial spaces of their other-worldly settings are soft-toned and austere. Although reluctant to put specific narratives into words, she paints an expression of character and space that is full of feeling and intent.
Prudence Flint’s process is painterly, rich in the techniques and traditions of figurative easel painting. She has a regular practice of drawing and painting from life, with a close circle that model for her at her studio. Her paintings take long periods to make, sometimes gestating for years. Ideas start as drawings in pencil and charcoal, painted in rough and loose studies, then evolved on the canvas in refined, simplified, clarified, and detailed finished paintings.
Prudence Flint lives and works in Melbourne, Australia.
This is Prudence Flint’s second exhibition with Fine Arts, Sydney.
