Peter Stichbury

Peter Stichbury’s paintings are constituted from the study of real, depicted, and imagined figures. The subjects of Stichbury’s paintings are typically composites of images and identities drawn together from sources found in photographic media, as well as narrative-based material and images in the public domain.

Stichbury uses the pictorial conventions of traditional portraiture and exacting oil painting technique. With sequent bodies of work over recent years, Stichbury has painted a cast of subjects whose portrait-like representations speak softly to the artist’s thematic interest in the observance of consciousness.

The paintings in this exhibition each depict an allusive single figure and are counterposing in scale.

This is Peter Stichbury’s second solo exhibition with Fine Arts, Sydney.
