Art Basel Hong Kong

Fine Arts, Sydney will be at Art Basel Hong Kong, with a solo presentation of new work by Yona Lee.

Titled ‘In Transit’, the work being presented in Hong Kong is a large new sculpture being exhibited for the first time. The work is constructed by the artist as a unique composition. It is both a social space and a sculptural form. The sculpture is characteristic of the work for which Yona Lee has become recognised, being made of welded stainless tubes in combination with everyday objects: electric lights, a clock, daybed, mop, sun umbrella, bench, device charging station, table and chairs.

Yona Lee is an artist whose work ranges in scale from tabletop objects to installations that occupy entire museum spaces, buildings and interior surfaces. No matter the size, her work shares a consistent language with the aesthetics and materiality of useful objects, urban infrastructure, public, commercial, and domestic spaces. Yona Lee’s work can be read in many ways: as minimal or maximal, as aggressive or playful, as authoritarian or utopian, as utilitarian or pointless, as site-specific or self-contained, as light touch or heavy duty, as sculpture or drawing, as serious or funny, as structure or system.

Yona Lee has made three solo exhibitions with Fine Arts, Sydney, and recent solo museum exhibitions at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Auckland Art Gallery, City Gallery Wellington, and Dunedin Public Art Gallery. Her work has featured in the Busan Biennale and Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art. A solo exhibition of new work by Yona Lee will open at Art Sonje Center, Seoul, in May 2024.

Yona Lee (*1986, Busan, South Korea) lives and works in Auckland, New Zealand and Seoul, South Korea.

Art Basel Hong Kong takes place 26—30 March 2024. Yona Lee's work will be a solo presentation in the Discoveries Sector with Fine Arts, Sydney.

李要那（1986年*，南韓釜山）在新西蘭奧克蘭和南韓首爾生活及工作。

李要那曾於悉尼「Fine Arts」舉辦三場個展，近期於新南威爾斯美術館、奧克蘭美術館、威靈頓城市美術館及但尼丁公共美術館舉辦個展。她的作品曾在釜山雙年展及里昂當代藝術雙年展中展出。李要那的新作品個展將於2024年5月在首爾善宰藝術中心開幕。

파인 아트 시드니가 홍콩 아트 바젤에서 이요나의 새 작품을 소개합니다.

이요나(대한민국 부산 1986년 출생)는 뉴질랜드 오클랜드와 한국 서울에서 활동하고 있습니다.

‘인 트랜짓’ 이라는 제목의 이번 작품은 작가의 의해 고유한 조합으로 제작된 대형 조각으로 이번 전시에서 처음으로 선보입니다. 이 작품은 사회적 공간이자 조각적 형태이기도 합니다. 이요나가 인정받게 된 작품의 특징은 용접한 스텐인레스 스틸을 전등, 시계, 소파 베드, 물걸레, 파라솔, 벤치, 테이블, 의자 등의 일상의 물건과의 결합하는 것입니다.

이요나는 작은 탁상용 물건부터 전체 박물관 공간, 건물 및 실내 표면을 차지하는 설치물까지 다양한 규모의 작업을 하고 있습니다. 사이즈에 상관없이 그의 작품은 유용한 물건, 도시 인프라, 공공, 상업 및 가정 공간의 미적 요소 및 실체와 일관된 언어를 공유하고 있습니다. 그의 작업은 미니멈 혹은 맥시멈, 공격적 혹은 장난기 있는, 권위적 혹은 유토피아적, 실용적 혹은 쓸모 없음, 장소에 한정적 혹은 독자적, 가벼운 터치 혹은 강력한, 조각 혹은 드로잉, 진지함 혹은 재미, 구조 혹은 시스템과 같이 다양한 방식으로 해석될 수 있습니다.

이요나는 파인 아트 시드니와 세 번의 개인전을 가졌으며, 최근에는 뉴 사우스 웨일스 아트 갤러리, 오클랜드 아트 갤러리, 시티 갤러리 웰링턴, 더니든 퍼블릭 아트 갤러리에서 개인전을 진행했습니다. 그의 작품은 부산 비엔날레와 리옹 비엔날레에도 소개되었습니다. 이요나의 새로운 작품 개인전이 2024년 5월 서울 아트선센터에서 열릴 예정입니다.
